Coach Meg demonstrates a warm up for hiking. Save this video for the next time you are about to go for a hike.
With warmer weather right around the corner, many of us will start ramping up the outdoor activities; enjoying more running and hiking. If you’re like me, you’ve been cooped up all winter so now is the time to look for a simple warm up that primes the joints and stabilizing muscles that have been stagnant the last few months.
This simple and effective bodyweight warm up will help in preventing the following common injuries: shin splits, IT band syndrome, low back pain, general joint pain in the ankles, knees and/or hips.
The Warm Up:
2 rounds
5 Inchworms - increase flexibility and activates the core
15 Tib raises - shin and ankle strength
15 Heel toe rocks - strengthens calves and stabilizes ankles
Rest :30 - 1:00 then
2 rounds - rest :30 between rounds
20 alternating High skips - strengthens ankles, activates hip flexors and hamstrings
20 alternating Skater leaps - warms up glutes to stabilize the hips and prevent the IT band from overworking, stabilizes the ankles
